7 Things to do in your First Month of Blogging

  1. Great advice for new bloggers. And I’ve been blogging a while and still picked up a few tricks. Great post. Lovely of you to share.

That’s fantastic!! I’m glad you were still able to get a little bit out of this post! Thank you so much!

  2. Steph says:

  3. Great tips, as always! I think picking a niche is SO important, I wish I would have done it sooner.

    • Emily says:

Thank you so much, Amanda! That’s very kind of you to say! I completely agree about picking a niche! Completly underrated!

  4. Alyssa says:

I love this post! I recently started my blog and it’s really helpful to connect with other bloggers and see what they’ve learned and have done to set up a great foundation for their blog! I think the best thing I’ve done is just go ahead and hit publish after working on it for so long! I knew it was fine, but had a bit of publishing fear at first. So far everything has been awesome, though! Best tip I have is just to start 😀

    • Emily says:

Thank you so much, Alyssa! Whoohoo!! Congratulations on launching your blog! That is definitely the biggest and scariest part of blogging, just hitting publish! I completely agree, if you don’t start, you can’t move forward. I’m so glad your everything is working out for you!! And again, congratulations on your blog!

  5. shan says:

  11. These are great tips about how to get started.. it can be overwhelming to do everything you need to get done, especially just getting started blogging, so these tips will really come in handy!

    • Emily says:

I completely agree! Blogging can be so overwhelming and there are so many questions especially when you’re just starting out. Thank you so much, Heather!

Your guide is fantastic. I loved how in depth you went into each detail that new bloggers should do. I completely agree with you! This is what every new blogger needs to do!

    • Emily says:

Thank you so much, Cyrstal! I really wanted to make sure I answered as many questions as possible that most new bloggers have!

  13. Creating the base of a marketing plan is so important – I find mine is always changing depending on what I find my strengths are but it is great to have a general plan that you can keep revisiting in case you get way too off track. Thanks for the tips! 3000 words, but they were all worth it!

    • Emily says:

I completely agree, Rebecca! Everyone’s marketing strategy is going to look a little different depending on where they are and what’s working and not working for them. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment!

  14. Yes, yes, yes, yes and 26 more yes’ from me! Amazing posts and all very important strategies. It took me 3 months to figure out most of the things on your list and you have it all right here. 🙂

  15. Nicole Stone says:

I LOVE how in depth this article is! I especially love how you included email marketing. As a new blogger, I never did email and now I regret I didn’t do it sooner. I also agree, content is king!

    • Emily says:

Thank you so much, Nicole! Yes!! Starting an email list was one of the last things I did and I completely regret not doing it sooner!

  16. Hey Emily! Nice tips and recommendations for new bloggers. Sharing this out to my community now!

  17. Selina says:

    Awesome advice !

  18. Amira says:

This was a good list of things to do for new bloggers since there’s always a lot to do and less time! I liked how you elaborated on each task. Thanks for sharing.

    • Emily says:

Thank you, Amira! I completely agree. There is so much to do behind the scenes of a blog that isn’t always shown.

  19. This is so well-written and helpful! I wish I’d had it two years ago! I’m saving it to pass along!

  20. Hannah says:

Great post! I love reading about blogging! Helps keep me going!

  21. Nicole says:

That’s interesting that you did not like bluehost. I’ve found them to be very helpful and godaddy was the one that seemed to have endless wait times and then be unable to solve my issues. But, beware that bluehost gives a great price and then doubles it upon renewal😬😡

    • Emily says:

Everyone seems to have a different opinion in Bluehost but I agree, I did not GoDaddy much either. They’re just are not helpful and you’re right, they never seemed to able to fix my problems! I’m just steering clear of BlueHost. I really love SiteGround though!

  22. amy says:

Hey! That was a very informative and in-depth post, I really needed as I just created my first blog and published my first post.

I’ll definitely be following you. Thank you so much for providing us with such valuable content.

    Regards.

  27. Diana says:

You are right, pinterest is great! I will save your post to my blogging board. I need to agree, pinterest works. I have more followers there than twitter and facebook, And i’m terrible when it comes to create images. That’s why I mostly save other pins that i love. my Blog main niche is lifestyle, and my sub niche’s are disability and Long distance relationships. I still need to think what can I offer my readers to sign up to my mail list. Great post, keep going!

    • Emily says:

Pinterest is definitely my favorite way to promote my blog and while it’s not magic (though nothing is and everything takes work) I do find it to work the best for most blog niches! Lifestyle niches are really fun to blog about and what you can do is really take a look at which posts your audience is resonating with the most, which ones are they commenting on, which ones are the most popular and see if you can create a checklist, worksheet, workbook or even ebook with more information to offer to them for free! I also have a brand new post on how to create images for your blog posts to pin to Pinterest here Thank you so much, Diana!

  28. Aline says:

Great post! I’ll definitely follow your tips. Thank you!

  29. Nicole says:

Thanks for the advice! I am still in my first 30 days of blogging and I love to find any and all information to make sure I am on the right track with my blog!

    • Emily says:

That’s so exciting! I hope you’re enjoying your first month with your blog and yes, there is so much information out there about how to blog and what to do when!

  30. Clay Darvish says:

I absolutely love your blog.. Very nice colors & theme. Did you make this website yourself? Please reply back as I’m wanting to create my own personal blog and want to learn where you got this from or exactly what the theme is called. Thanks!

    • Emily says:

Thank you, Clay! No, I didn’t make this website myself necessarily as I used a theme from WordPress (.org specifically). It’s called the blossom beauty theme. You can purchase themes if you choose but personally, I haven’t found it necessary.

  31. Thank you so much! This post was perfect. I feel like it was actually helpful information other than what I normally have been reading about starting a new blog. I’m curious that you mentioned you used Wix previously….Did you transfer over your content? Or did you just start completely new with a new blog? I should have listened to all of the posts I read and I did start with Wix but I am looking to transfer everything soon (once my domain name lets me switch). Any tips on that?

    • Emily says:

Thank you Amanda, I really appreciate that! And I’m glad I could help you with starting a new blog and give you some new information. When I used Wix and found it wasn’t for me, I did start a brand new blog with a new domain name and then manually transferred all of the posts I had from Wix to WordPress.org. I didn’t have a ton of blog posts when I did this so it wasn’t that big of a hassle. I would recommend reaching out to your new host – wherever you are transferring your blog – and see if they can help make the transition smooth and also reach out to Wix to see what they can do as well. Everyone seems to have a different interaction with Wix and sometimes they can transfer over your blog posts and other times they won’t. Talk to both hosts and see if you can work out a plan to move over your blog as easily as possible. OR If worse comes to worst, manually move over your blog posts once your domain name is switched. Wishing you all the best and I hope the transition is smooth!
